Audrey Meyer-Munz Presents her Artistic Backgammon Box
Deuce 60 – 60
The outside of the box has a wholly covered white background with a few Jewish symbols on both sides. The 60 Year - Anniversary of the state of Israel means celebrating the Diamond Anniversary, it has to look flawless and pure.
On the inside, the number 60 is drawn twice, upright or upside-down depending on where you stand. Each opponent faces the other.
We live in a world where we are constantly in the shadow of a winner-loser, domineer-dominated, two opponents situation.
The word “Deuce” is commonly used in games. A game is a succession of ups and downs, of winning and losing moments. This constant backward and forward movement drives people crazy and “deuce” is the utmost moment of tension, because there is no final overbalance.
The two 60 are big and wide, they look stable on their respective basis. Stability is one of the strategic points in playing backgammon and it is also the necessary core for tolerance and peace in the region.
Audrey Meyer-Munz
Audrey is a Belgian-born Mosaic artist.
She has learnt mosaic making in the studio of Sarit Pilz-Granit, in Ramat Hasharon. Audrey is mainly auto-didactic.
About the artist
With fragments of various media, Audrey throws herself into a rich composition. When something appeals to her visually, she challenges herself to interpret it through mosaic.
She has gathered over a lengthy period of time images and experiences from her voyages and cultural knowledge. She loves above all to dig into the land and spirit of the country she has deliberately chosen to live in. Her works are embodied with thoughts and events which have marked her life. She expresses them through symbols, icons and the intriguing and complex assemblage of a multitude of colors and textures.
Audrey integrates in her work a personal rhythm and national one, two different rhythms that become closely intertwined and lend new impetus to her creativity.
