Aviva Beigel Presents her Backgammon Board

Mazal Tov ( Good Luck )

Shesh- Besh is a board game for two players, played with cubes, considered not only as a fortune game, but also as a strategy game.
The name of my artwork is "GOOD LUCK", a phrase that is usually used when we congratulate a person or a group trying to achieve a success in any kind of complicated game or procedure, in this case the attempt to achieve reconciliation.

In my work I choose to describe two different situations: In the left wing of the board two groups are pacing each other in confrontation. In the right wing appears the solution.
Each group has its own color, black or red, there is no place for individuality, the background is a painted map of the world, implying many global conflicts.

The Israeli /Arabic conflict is emphasized   by using some Hebrew words as: "Eeretz", which means our country, and "Shalom", which means Peace, accompanied by some Arabic letters and the Minaret, as Moslem symbols.

In the right wing, all the rules were broken.
No more groups, but many individuals, each one with his own color and identity, together creating "one" big figure. The game /conflict is over.

I have chosen the shape of a head as characteristic to the whole process of reconciliation. Shesh- Besh is a strategy game which involves a lot of thinking.
The solution to any conflict lies in the ability of people "to think differently".
