Frida Sasson Presents her Backgammon Box

The Name of the Game – Conciliation

The original game involves the following elements: contestants, triumphs, losses, black versus white.

By a slow process requiring great patience, I transformed the absolute and confrontational to low-keyed and variegated. As in putting together a puzzle, gradually an entire world emerged. A collage of various colors, smells and tastes living side by side in harmony.

I surrounded the mosaic with a frame of gold – an oriental reminder that we live in the middle east.

All of the artworks are made of bits of paper torn frome the newspaper without any additional color or paint. The color of the artworks is the original color as it appeard in the newspaper

The theoretical idea guiding me was working from the outside inward. If in the exterior frame I “poured” the color into a form, then within the box and inwardly, on a side hidden from view, a natural and far more pleasant process began. The colors merged with one another and created something that in my mind’s eye resembled the prophetic end of days – a kind of utopian world.

In recent years I have been creating art from recycled paper. This work was executed via the technique of collage using newspaper, with no additional paints.

Nonetheless, it was not always easy to turn over the page of a painful printed text, so disquieting, and choose its colored backside.

I believe that human society must begin adopting the economics of recycling, in which items whose function has ceased can change purposes.

All of the artworks are made of bits of paper torn from the newspaper without any additional color or paint. The color of the artworks is the original color as it appeard in the newspaper.
