Ilana Yaron Presents her Backgammon Box

Embracing the Future

The work "Reconciliation" is a collage on a backgammon board. This symbolizes hope, rooted in the past, progressing into the present and aspiring to the future.

The past is represented by stones brought from an extermination camp in Poland – Auschwitz. The present is represented by figures in black and white and by straw taken from the land. The palms of the hands are outstretched for reconciliation while the sleeves of the baby clothes embracing the backgammon board express the hope for universal reconciliation. All the representations are fastened to the board by painful colored pins.
