Tania Bonar Prestent her Backgammon Box

The Time is Ripe

The project is devided into two parts.
The outer section - is decorated with sunflower seeds, garbanzo beans, olive pits, date pits and seashells, all representing the plentiful ecology of the Middle East.
This is truly the land of milk and honey.
The words Shalom and Salaam hint that two nations can easily live side by side.

Inside the box - Two situations are presented:
First - Describes a threatening situation, the eve of war.
The backgammon pieces face each other on guard, with a wall between them.
There is no eye contact, no possibility to converse, just the demonization of the other.
Second - The Israeli hat has acquired the color of peace, the wall has come down, and there is now interaction between the two sides.

Games are a wonderful way of talking and connecting.

Style - Portrays the long endless journey of self- discovery, painful growth through the search of the unknown and the vivid blending of emotional turmoil and rebirth in her artwork.
